Look after your gear and it'll look after you
Your RUGD gear is built for the beach, the ute tray and the campsite. A little care keeps the powder coat looking sharp and the seals doing their job for years. Pick your product below, or start with the basics that apply to everything.
The basics, for everything
- Hand wash is best Warm soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge. It's quicker than you think and kinder to the finish.
- Dry it properly Rinse, then let everything air dry fully before you put it away or put the lid back on.
- Go easy on it No scourers, steel wool, bleach or chlorine cleaners. They scratch the finish and wear out the powder coat.
- Keep it out of extremes No microwave, oven or freezer, and no long or high heat dishwasher cycles.

Everyday cleaning
Warm soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge does the job. Rinse it, then let it air dry properly before you put it away. Steer clear of scourers, steel wool and bleach based cleaners, they'll scratch the finish and take the life out of the powder coat.
Dishwasher
Top rack only, short cycle only. Honestly though, a quick hand wash is better for it and takes about the same time. Heat and long cycles wear on the seal and the finish.
Dry out the bottle opener
As with any cup, water has a tendency to sit in the recess around the opener and powder coating. Give the cup a good shake straight up and down (not side to side, that just moves water around) to flick the water out, then stand it upside down to finish drying. Takes two seconds and saves you a headache down the track.
Hot drinks
Pop the SwigSip™ Dual Coffee Lid on for coffee and tea. Leave a little room at the top rather than filling to the brim, and take care when sipping straight after pouring, as the cup keeps things hot for hours.

Everyday cleaning
The StubJug is built to last. Hand washing with warm soapy water and a soft cloth or bottle brush is recommended to protect the powder coat finish, especially on the brighter colours. Rinse well and let it air dry with the lid off.
Dishwasher
It's dishwasher safe on the top rack. Skip the high heat and sanitise settings, as they're hard on the finish and the seals.
Looking after both lids
Rinse the straw lid after every use, and run warm soapy water through the straw so nothing builds up inside. After a beer, give the silicone beer lid a quick wash so it doesn't hold onto smells. Let both lids dry fully before putting them back on.
Dry out the bottle opener
Same trick as the StubCup. Shake the jug straight up and down to flick water out of the recess around the opener, then stand it upside down to finish drying.
Cold drinks, the right way
- The StubJug is designed for cold drinks. Don't use it for hot drinks.
- Tallies, longnecks and bottled drinks sit inside in their own can or bottle, which is exactly what it's made for.
- Don't pour fizzy or carbonated drinks straight into the jug and seal the lid, as pressure can build up.

StubBoot
Silicone boot that protects the base, stops the clang on hard surfaces and keeps your cup or jug steady.

Take it off to clean
Slide the boot off before you wash your StubCup or StubJug. Wash the boot separately in warm soapy water, rinse, and let both the boot and the base of your cup or jug dry fully before you refit it.
Don't trap water under the boot
The boot covers the opener, which is great for keeping sand and grit out, but it also means water can sit underneath if the cup goes back in wet. After a beach day, a rain shower or a wash, pop it off, dry out the opener recess and the boot, then slide it back on. This is the best way to avoid surface rust on the base.
Keeping it fresh
Silicone can pick up smells and a bit of lint over time. A paste of bicarb soda and water, worked in with a soft brush and rinsed off, freshens it right up. The 1000ml boot has a drainage hole to help airflow, so give that a rinse too.

Cleaning the lid
The lid comes apart so you can properly get into the seal and the sipper. Worth a full pull apart wash every week or so, especially if you've had anything other than water in there. Let every part dry fully before you put it back together.

Run warm soapy water through the straw after use. A straw brush makes quick work of it if you have one. Rinse and let it dry before refitting.

Everyday cleaning
Give it a rinse after each session so beer doesn't dry on and leave a smell. Wash in warm soapy water with a soft cloth, rinse, and let it air dry fully before storing.
Keep it in one piece
Store it with your StubCup so it doesn't go missing at camp, and keep it away from the dog. If yours does get lost or chewed, replacement Beer Lids are available on our site.

If you spot surface rust
Applies to the StubCup and StubJug.
This can happen sometimes where moisture's been sitting or if you've been at the beach near salty water. Most of the time it's only cosmetic and it comes straight off.
How to shift it
- Mix bicarb soda with a bit of water into a paste, or use a cream cleanser like Jif.
- Work it in gently with a soft cloth or an old toothbrush.
- Rinse and dry it well, paying attention to the opener recess.
- For tougher spots, white vinegar on a cloth does the trick.
Stop it coming back
Dry the opener recess after every wash, rinse off salt water after a beach day, and take the StubBoot off to let the base dry out.
Safety notes
- The bottle opener can be sharp. Keep it out of reach of children.
- Not suitable for the microwave, oven or freezer.
- Take care with hot drinks and don't fill to the brim.
- The StubJug is for cold, non-carbonated drinks when poured straight in. Cans and bottles inside the jug are fine.
- Stop using any product that's been damaged.
